Álvaro Carreras

Álvaro Carreras

Sport Lisboa e Benfica announces that it has reached an agreement with Real Madrid, Spain, for the permanent transfer of footballer Álvaro Carreras for €50 million.

The terms of the deal were detailed to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM): "Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD announces that it has reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of all rights to the player Álvaro Carreras for €50,000,000 (fifty million euros). It is further announced that Real Madrid will be entitled to retain the 5% solidarity mechanism for subsequent distribution to the clubs that participated in the player's development. In addition, Manchester United will be entitled to receive a 20% capital gain on the transfer of the player, calculated after deducting the acquisition value of the player's rights and the solidarity mechanism retained in the sale. Finally, it should be noted that Benfica SAD will not incur any intermediary service charges"

Álvaro Carreras arrived at Benfica in January 2024 – on loan from Manchester United – and made his debut with the eagle on his chest on the 24th of that month, in the League Cup semi-final against Estoril. The Spanish U-21 international left-back thus began a journey that saw him play in 16 games for the Club in 2023/24. His first goal for the Eagles came in the match against Farense on April 22.

His consistent and improving performances led to his permanent signing, with a contract until 2029.

In 2024/25, Álvaro Carreras played 52 games, scored four goals, and made five assists, contributing to the League Cup victory.

In total, the Spanish defender wore the Sacred Mantle in 68 games – 43 in Liga Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, 3 in the Europa League, 6 in the Portuguese Cup, 4 in the League Cup, and 2 in the Club World Cup – and scored five goals and provided as many assists in around 5,268 minutes of play.

The Club wishes the athlete all the best in this new phase of his career.
